Fallout Coming After Big Loss to UIW

The season started with such hope.

The Cowboys got the opening kickoff to start the game, and within three plays, had fumbled the ball away.

One play and 27 yards later, and Incarnate Word had taken the 7-0 lead.

There’s more. Go onto Facebook, and you’ll see it, but really, we don’t have to look further than those first two series to see how broken this Cowboys team is at this point.

Forget about the 28 points scored in two minutes at the end of the half, 21-7 in the Cards favor. Even without that two minute stretch, the Cowboys showed little to no life.

The big play receivers in weeks past, Solo Lewis, Jamaal Levi, and Kevin Rideau were no where to be seen.

Before the end of the first quarter, Viator had pulled Cowboys’ starting QB Jake Strong, which begs the question of why he started him in the first place. To call this move unexpected isn’t correct, but to do it so soon just feels poorly timed. He then brought freshman Brady Barrier into the fray, and watched as he floundered while still playing better than Strong.

But to no avail.

If this was going to be the move, which it should have been, it should have started last week coming off the bye, and if nothing else, Barrier should have started the game.

Add to it that Viator than brought Strong back at the end of the game for no apparent reason, and yeah. I can’t imagine the confidence level in that Quarterback Room going into Homecoming.

That’s right. Homecoming is this Saturday at 2 in the Hole. Get excited.

Or excited as you can get after watching the Cowboys get destroyed 38-6 after barely getting by Northwestern State the week before. A Homecoming game against a Nicholls team that arguably took care of business this week against the Demons better than the Cowboys did.

As bad as the offense has been looking, McNeese’s defense continued to struggle as well, giving up 226 yards on the ground while Cardinal quarterback Emmett Brown (not a time traveler) looked like a Heisman finalist with 283 yards, 4 TDs, and no INTs.

Homecoming…

We’ll see what Viator has to say at his press conference on Monday, but there doesn’t seem to be any solution for a team this talented at this point in the season. All the chances have been squandered, and now it’s going to be a chore to get the team and the community up for these final weeks of the season.
