Get Right Game Against Texas Wesleyan as Cowboys Get the Shutout 52-0

With Jake Strong hurt, Devin Lippold gets the start and throws for 4 touchdowns, the first time by a McNeese starter, as the Cowboys take Texas Wesleyan to the woodshed with the shutout.

For putting up 52 points, the Cowboys started late, not getting their first touchdown until the end of the first quarter as Solo Lewis grabbed a 22 yard toss from Lippold.

McNeese began pouring it on from there, scoring next on a Javon Davis blocked FG, Texas Wesleyan’s only scoring attempt all night, and having Safir Stills-Bey take it 70 yards to the house to put the Cowboys up 14-0.

Elisha Edwards led the team in receiving with 5 catches for 77 yards and 2 TDs, and Curtis Deville continued his strong start to the season with 3 for 55 and a tuddy.

Marquez Davis led the Cowboys in rushing with 67 yards and a touchdown on 9 carries, but this was a day that saw 8 different Cowboys tote the rock and 10 different receivers get in on the action.

On defense, Sentario Willis picked off a pass for the second straight game. Kenyatta Fleet led the team with six tackles, and three different Cowboys posted a sack.

The Cowboys finished with 500 total yards of offense while holding Texas Wesleyan to just 187 yards. 

This all bodes well for next week’s match-up against Tarleton State, a team that came up to the FCS division recently and has made a lot of noise, beating McNeese in their last meeting. 

The interesting question will be Jake Strong’s health, as Lippold play seems to forebear a quarterback controversy if he is healthy. Right now, Lippold seems to have more command of the offense, but we’ve only seen him against a largely out of it SFA defense and now a Texas Wesleyan that didn’t put up much of a fight.

Who’s the right answer under center? This decision will very well determine McNeese’s season, but if I’m Coach Viator, it’s a question I hope is answered for me.
