SWLA Week 4 Standouts: Griffin’s Five Touchdowns, Sulphur’s Comeback Lead the Headlines

A five-touchdown performance at Barbe. A one-point comeback win for Sulphur. A running back who piled up 283 yards on the other sideline.
Week 4 gave Southwest Louisiana plenty to talk about, with established playmakers delivering performances that shaped more than the final score. These five earned a spot among CouvSportsMedia’s weekly standouts.
Jordin Griffin | Barbe
Griffin gave Barbe a scoring threat on the ground and in the return game as the Bucs defeated Lafayette 52–35 to improve to 4–0.
He rushed for 190 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries, averaging 12.7 yards per attempt. His biggest contribution outside the offense came on an 86-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, bringing his total to five scores.
That return helped Barbe draw even before the Bucs outscored Lafayette 17–0 in the fourth quarter. On a night when Barbe had to respond to pressure, Griffin supplied both sustained production and an immediate answer.
Noah Courtney | Sulphur
Courtney’s passing production put him in the conversation. His finish made the performance stand out.
The Sulphur quarterback completed 28 of 44 passes for 450 yards and four touchdowns in a 55–54 victory over Sam Houston. He also delivered the deciding two-point conversion on the ground, completing a comeback that kept the Tors unbeaten at 4–0.
For Sulphur, the significance extended beyond the yardage. Courtney helped turn a substantial fourth-quarter deficit into a district-opening win, keeping the offense productive when nearly every remaining possession mattered.
Michael Lange | Vinton
Lange needed just eight carries to produce 180 rushing yards and four touchdowns in Vinton’s 47–0 win over Grand Lake, according to submitted weekly statistics.
That works out to 22.5 yards per carry. He also contributed a passing touchdown and six tackles, giving the Lions an impact player in multiple phases.
The rushing efficiency jumps off the page, but the range of contributions separates this performance. Lange helped Vinton create points while also contributing to a defense that finished with a shutout.
Markeithon Simon | Sam Houston
Sam Houston came up one point short, but Simon delivered one of the area’s strongest individual performances.
He carried 37 times for 283 yards and four touchdowns against Sulphur, averaging approximately 7.6 yards per attempt despite the heavy workload.
The combination of volume and efficiency matters. Simon handled repeated touches without sacrificing production, giving the Broncos a consistent source of offense throughout a game that came down to the final margin.
Bryson Hardy | Sulphur
Hardy gave Sulphur another way to win alongside Courtney’s passing attack.
He rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries, then added four receptions for 80 yards and another score. His final line: 251 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns.
His scoring plays included a 40-yard reception and a 58-yard run, showing how quickly he could change a possession. In a game decided by one point, Hardy’s ability to produce through the air and on the ground was central to Sulphur’s comeback.
Week 4’s selections reflect different ways to influence a game: Griffin’s scoring range, Courtney’s late execution, Lange’s versatility, Simon’s sustained workload and Hardy’s explosive production. Each gave his team something substantial when the game demanded it.
